Q:

Can the ailerons be placed somewhere else on the plane?

A:

Yes! Though ailerons are normally placed near the end of wings, people have experimented with the ailerons at different parts of the plane. Some examples are wingtip ailerons, spoilerons, and elevons. These often combine two different parts of the plane into one. Also, some airplanes have no ailerons, such as the Wright Flyer, and rely on other parts of the plane to control roll.
