Ask an Explainer

Q:

Could a paper aircraft fly out in space?

A:

Without air, the plane wouldn't be able to fly.

The is no air in space, and air is essential for paper airplanes to get the lift they need to fly. Because of that, you will not get lift in space. However, no air means no drag: nothing to slow that paper airplane down or cause it to fall. So if you gave it just one little push, it would go on forever.

So it would move, but it wouldn't really be flying.
