Q:

Do pilots need ailerons for takeoff?

A:

Ailerons are not made for liftoff, they help the plane turn. Ailerons are sections of the wing near the tip that can move up and down. This movement can increase or decrease lift. It can also increase or decrease drag. Ailerons work opposite of each other. This means, when one aileron moves up the other will move down. This way the airplane will roll in one direction. For example, when the aileron on the left wing moves up and the aileron on the right wing moves down the airplane will roll left.
