Q:

Has any type of bird ever flown into space?

A:

Birds cannot fly in the vacuum of space because there is no air, but some birds have been brought to live on space stations before. American astronauts brought 32 chicken embryos to space on the Discovery STS-29 flight. Even before that flight, Russian astronauts had experimented with Japanese quails in space (mostly with their eggs). Adult birds have not been taken to space and would not be able to fly outside of a space station.
