Q:

How do hang gliders fly?

A:

The hang glider's wing is called a delta wing, and actually is a triangular airfoil!

The hang glider flyer will start off by running, increasing the speed of the airflow above the wing. This will create enough lift to get the glider aloft. When gravity starts tugging the glider back down to earth, the hang glider picks up speed, and lift is constantly generated. The pilot will use drag to his advantage, helping him maneuver the wing wherever he wants to go.

To land, all the pilot must do is change the angle of attack, creating enough drag to gently slow him down and allow him to lose alititude.
