Q:

How do you know how much thrust is needed to launch a rocket? I know it deppends of weight, but is there some kind of formula that represents a certain amount of thrust per pound?

A:

Rocket scientists have a lot of equations to calculate every aspect of a rocket launch. It's very complicated to get a rocket to space: it needs a lot of thrust to fight the Earth's gravitational pull and even more to reach escape velocity, but all that thrust needs fuel, and all that fuel adds weight.
