How do you know how much thrust is needed to launch a rocket? I know it deppends of weight, but is there some kind of formula that represents a certain amount of thrust per pound?

Rocket scientists have a lot of equations to calculate every aspect of a rocket launch. It's very complicted to get a rocket to space: it needs a lot of thrust to fight the Earth's gravitational pull and even more to reach escape velocity, but all that thrust needs fuel, and all that fuel adds weight.

Luckily, we DO have an equation for that! Check out NASA's page on rocket science, right here, and rocket thrust, here.
