Q:

How is fabric used in aircraft construction?

A:

In most modern airplanes, fabric is only used to furnish the aircraft. But, in the early years of flight, the skins of almost all airplanes were made out of fabric because of its lightness. These fabrics were frequently treated with chemicals to strengthen them for flight. Over time, however, we have engineered stronger and lighter materials to create the airplanes we have today.
