Ask an Explainer

Q:

What happens if the thrust becomes less than the drag?

A:

In the rare occurance that this does happen, the plane would no longer be able to move forward, since there is more backwards push (drag) than forward push (thrust). Because it wouldn't be moving forward, the aircraft will no longer be able to produce lift, and without lift, the plane cannot stay in the sky.
