Ask an Explainer

Q:

Why are some airplanes bigger than others?

A:

Airplanes are different sizes in order to do different things. A fighter jet is going to smaller so that it will react to control changes better. On the other hand, a passenger jet will be bigger to carry lots of passengers and cargo. Even among commercial planes, sizes vary depending on what the plane is going to carry.
