According to Kepler’s first law of orbital motion, planets orbit the Sun in an ellipse. The Sun is one of two foci (singular: focus) of the ellipse. This is because it is the largest object in our solar system, with the most mass. You can see a picture of a satellite orbiting the Earth here.
