Ask an Explainer
Q:
Can you explain to me the aerodynamics in the flight of an arrow?
A:
Arrows and darts have tail fins which serve as horizontal and vertical stabilizers, correcting pitch and yaw to keep the arrow in line with the way it was thrown. They don't need roll stability because the cross-section of an arrow is symmetrical.
