Q:
Does Pluto have rings like Saturn?
A:
Saturn’s rings are made up of small particles, ranging in size from micrometers to meters in size. Looking through a telescope, it is extremely hard to determine if Pluto has a ring system, so before 2015, some believed that there was a possibility of rings around Pluto. This was thought because Pluto has two very small moons, Nix and Hydra, that have very little gravity. If these moons were hit with micrometeoroids, the dust could possibly leave the moons and go into orbit around Pluto. However, when the New Horizons satellite reached Pluto in the summer of 2015, no rings were discovered, as can be seen in these pictures.
