Q:
How do things gain height against gravity?
A:
Gravity pulls everything down to earth at an acceleration of 9.8 m/s^2, which means that if you can go fast enough, you can escape its pull entirely. This is called escape velocity, and on Earth it is aproximately 11.2 km/s or 7 mps.
