Ask an Explainer
Q:
How do you start the jet engine propeller without an external supply?
A:
Jet engines used to be started by external generators which were connected to the axle of a jet engine.
These days, we use an internal electric starter. An electric motor inside of the engine can be started with the push of a button. Fuel begins flowing into the engine and then is ignited with a spark plug.
