How does a hovercraft fly?
A:
Many use chambers filled with air to create frictionless movement, but it doesn't actually look like they are hovering. These are called air-cushion vehicles and they're very popular.
The Hiller Flying Platform used a fan to hover above the ground.
If you're thinking about the kinds you see in television and film, those are more fiction than fact. Some say they use magnets to stay aloft, others, anti-gravity fields, but we haven't managed to make any those yet.
