Q:
How does the tail of a plane help in flight?
A:
The tail helps the airplane control pitch and yaw. Pitch, which helps the airplane move up and down, is controlled on the horizontal tail surface, as the elevator increases/decreases lift. Yaw, which helps the airplane turn left or right, is controlled by the rudder on the vertical tail surface. Along with roll, which uses the wings of the plane, pitch and yaw give the aircraft a controlled flight.
