Ask an Explainer
Q:
In a large transport jet airplane, is the center of rotation around the lateral axis always collated with the center of gravity?
A:
Yes. All aircraft have a center of gravity or center of mass, and it is around this point that the plane will rotate. It will pitch, roll, and yaw around this point.
Rotation around the lateral axis would be pitch. Pitching the aircraft up or down would raise or lower the nose of the plane.
