Q:
On the website you state that weight is a “field force.” A field force does not have to be in physical contact with the object to have an effect on the object. How is this possible when weight is an intrinsic part of an object?
A:
Every object has mass, or an amount of matter that makes it up. Weight is caused when gravity pulls on this mass. Therefore, your weight will depend on which planet you are on, as each will pull on you differently. Gravity is a force field, which means that everything inside that force field will be pulled on, and thus, have weight. It doesn't have to be touching you or the object to have an effect. So while mass is intrinsic, weight depends on were you are.
