Q:
What are slats used for?
A:
Slats are movable pieces on the front of airplane wings. When deployed, they increase the camber, or curvature, of the airfoil, and thus increase lift. These are used during take off and landing to help the plane gain lift at slower speeds, but then turned back in flight so that drag is reduced.
