Q:
What do you mean by conduction of heat?
A:
Hi Ujala,
The conduction of heat is a type of heat transfer, when heat energy moves from a relatively hot area to a relatively cold area. Conduction is the main type of heat transfer in a single solid object or when two objects touch. For example, if you roasted a marshmallow on a metal skewer, the end of the skewer that you are holding would get hot and burn you due to conduction. That’s why we need wooden handles that don’t conduct heat well.
The outside of hypersonic planes and spacecraft get very hot. They need to avoid conducting too much heat to the inside where passengers are. Thanks for the great question!
