Q:

What does the body of the aircraft do besides carry people?

A:

The body of the airplane holds not only passengers but cargo, landing gear, and sometimes fuel. Most importantly, it helps hold all the other pieces together. The body of the aircraft is sometimes called the fuselage. The pilot sits in the front of the airplane while cargo and passengers sit further back. Below that is where the landing gear is stored during flight.  In some aircraft's fuel is stored in the body while other aircrafts store fuel in the wings.
