Q:

What materials are used to make the "black box" and why can't we use them to make planes?

A:

The flight recorder (also known as a black box) is made of many different components which are encased in a steel box. Steel is both solid and dependabe, but it is also quite heavy. Making an entire airplane out of steel would make it weigh much more, and it would be difficult to fly. Airplanes are made of aluminum, which is lighter, and is reenforced around a steel and titanium frame.
