Q:
When was the VOR and the ILS first used?
A:
The VOR or VHF Omnidirectional Range was developed shortly after World War II. It entered broad service in the early 1950s. It is used to communicate with planes using radio.
The ILS (or Instrument Landing System) began testing in the late 1920s and installed in various aircraft starting in the 1930s. This instrument helps the plane land safely.
