Q:
Why are high performance planes moving onto composite structures like carbon fiber or Kevlar?
A:
High performance planes are moving towards composite structures such as Kevlar and carbon fiber because they are strong, yet light. Planes using them are more efficient and save money.
Kevlar is incredibly study and is used in bullet-proof vests and even spacesuits to protect against projectiles. It can be formed into different structures, too. Carbon fiber is lightweight yet sturdy. Using lighter materials saves more fuel and makes airplanes more maneuverable. These aicraft increase their performance, going higher and faster than before, all while saving on cost.
