The Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft takes off and lands like a helicopter. Once airborne, its engines rotate to convert the aircraft to a turboprop airplane capable of high-speed, high-altitude flight. The Osprey was developed from the Bell XV-15 test aircraft. It is twice as fast as any helicopter and has a much longer range, so it can perform more kinds of missions.
