Ask an Explainer
Q:
Why are natural fibers not used as aircraft material?
A:
Ussually, alluminum mixed with other metals to form what is called in alloy are used. These alloys have a high strength to weight ratio, strong yet easily formed into a desired shape, can be cut extremely thin, and can be treated to be as strong as steel. These properties, along with a competative price, cannot be matched by materials like natural fibers, and are why other materials are not used.
