Q:
Why are rockets capable of launching?
A:
Rockets are capable of launching and escaping Earth atmosphere only by using enormous amounts of fuel to generate thrust. Most of the rocket is the propellant, which consists of fuel and oxidizer. The rocket generally needs at least 20 times the payload (the supplies and/or people it's carrying), of propellant to launch into orbit.
